Location:
Hope Ranch is one of Santa Barbara´s residential areas and is located immediately west of Santa Barbara itself extending from the ocean to Highway 101 in the north and from Vieja Drive on the west side to Cliff Drive on the east.

Points of Interest:
Hope Ranch has an interesting history unto itself. Originally the homeland of native Chumash Indians, the area was first visited in 1769 by the Portola Expedition. A retired Spanish officer, Nariciso Fabrigat, was the first landowner of this area having acquired his holdings as land grants from Mexico for his services. The area was a successful rancho and after changing hands a couple of times, was purchased by Thomas Hope in 1861. The Southern Pacific Railroad came to Santa Barbara in 1887 and purchased the ranch in 1888 as the Pacific Improvement Company. This began the initial stages of developing the area into a residential community. By the 1920s, after an intermittent start, Hope Ranch was beginning to evolve into an exclusive residential area.

The Hope Ranch Homes Association was formed in 1924 and includes the La Cumbre Mutual Water Company, oversees the management of zoning use, architectural standards, security patrol, fire protection and the water system. There are 1850 acres in Hope Ranch, with a total of 771 parcels. Property owner´s assessments and voting are based on the number of acres that are owned. Points of interest include Hope Ranch´s private beach, more than 30 miles of trials for horseback riding, Laguna Blanca, the Laguna Blanca School and the La Cumbre Golf and Country Club.
